Group Composition in the Navigation Simulator – a Pilot Study
نویسنده
چکیده
At Kalmar Maritime Academy (KMA) the first-year students at the Master Mariner program complete a course in the use of ARPA 1 . The course includes eight simulator exercises, where seven of them are completed in pairs and the last exercise is an individual assessment. Previously, instructors have encouraged students to choose a new partner for each of the first seven exercises; however, the reason for this strategy has not been well documented. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of fixed versus rotating bridge teams on the individual learning outcome. During an eight-week course in spring 2012, two groups of students were asked to work either with the same or a new partner for each exercise during a course. The result showed no difference between the two groups with regard to the individual assessment, and the students who failed did so because of inadequate interpretation of the ARPA information, and not because of insufficient radar knowledge.

Melatonin improves spatial navigation memory in male diabetic rats
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of melatonin as an antioxidant on spatial navigation memory in male diabetic rats. Thirty-two male white Wistar rats weighing 200 ± 20 g were divided into four groups, randomly: control, melatonin, diabetic and melatonin-treated diabetic. Experimental diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal injection of 50 mg kg-1 streptozotocin. Melatonin...

Introduction: Pilot performance investigation during multi-tasking operations requires a procedure, in which the parameters related to the desired scenario of the simulator are obtained in a systematic manner. The multi-attribute task battery (MATB-II) is a standard simulator of generic piloting tasks developed by national aeronautics and space administration (NASA). Methods: Employing infor...

This study compared the effect of alternative graphic or numeric vertical navigation (VNAV) aircraft cockpit displays on horizontal and vertical flight technical error (FTE), workload and subjective preference. Displays included: a) a moving map with altitude range arc, b) the same format, supplemented with a push-to-see profile view, including a vector flight-path predictor, c) an equivalent n...
متن کاملAdaptive Fusion of Inertial Navigation System and Tracking Radar Data
Against the range-dependent accuracy of the tracking radar measurements including range, elevation and bearing angles, a new hybrid adaptive Kalman filter is proposed to enhance the performance of the radar aided strapdown inertial navigation system (INS/Radar). This filter involves the concept of residual-based adaptive estimation and adaptive fading Kalman filter and tunes dynamically the fil...
